Life teaches us that we cannot be released from powerful, stressful emotions by resisting, ignoring, or repressing them – no matter how hard we try. In fact, life teaches us just the opposite. And we discover that resisting, repressing and ignoring unpleasant emotions just tend to make things worse. We can however learn that instead of running away and feeling threatened by powerful emotions, we can just sit with these emotions and breathe and allow them to be. When we allow and accept powerful emotions and stop resisting them, we discover that these emotions and the strong emotional charge that goes with them just tend to decompress and dissolve all by themselves! It’s sort of like steam coming out of a very hot kettle – the steam goes shhhhh and then just evaporates into thin air! What a relief!
